A note appears on the staff; you tap the matching key on the on-screen piano. That is the whole exercise. Choose treble or bass clef, ledger lines on or off, accidentals on or off, and any of the 30 key signatures, including A♭ minor.
Playing X JAPAN songs in their original keys means reading a lot of black-key notes. YOSEKI built this while learning Silent Jealousy in A♭ minor, wishing it had existed earlier. Free, nothing to install, works on your phone.

- Endless Rain Band score in C major, guitars tuned a half step down → sounds in B major (5 sharps) Practice in B major To match the record on piano you read in B major, or the enharmonic C♭ major (7 flats) → as written, C major / C♭ major
- Tears Original key: A major (3 sharps) Practice this The band score has F♯, C♯ and G♯ and opens on Bm7. No down-tuning, so the written key is the sounding key.
- Forever Love Original key: B♭ major (2 flats) Practice this A piano-led ballad that modulates near the end. If you learned a C-major arrangement, reading it in B♭ is where the two flats start to bite.
- Rusty Nail Score in A minor (no sharps or flats) Practice in A minor The band score opens on Am with an F–G–Am progression and no key signature. If your score marks the guitars a half step down, the sounding key is G♯ minor (5 sharps) → practice in G♯ minor
- DAHLIA Score in E minor (1 sharp), tuned a half step down → sounds in E♭ minor (6 flats) Practice in E♭ minor The band score opens on Em with F♯ in the signature and is marked "Tuning: Half Down". To match the record on piano, read in E♭ minor (6 flats) or the enharmonic D♯ minor (6 sharps) → as written, E minor / D♯ minor. The song modulates partway through.
How to use
- Start with "Treble × Within staff × C" until you tap without thinking.
- Then "Ledger lines", then "Bass". Reading the left hand well speeds up learning a song.
- Pick the key of the song you want to play and practice with the signature applied. Turn on "Accidentals" to mix in naturals like a real score.
- Key labels are hidden by default. Show "Do Re Mi" or "C D E" only when you are stuck. "Graduation mode" shows labels at first and hides them after 10 correct in a row.
About keys
A♭ minor (7 flats) and G♯ minor (5 sharps) are the same notes on the piano. Published scores use either spelling, so match the key to the score in front of you.
